How to get an alert when the funding rate flips or spikes
Funding moves slowly, until it doesn't. A flip from positive to negative, or a jump to an extreme, tells you positioning has changed. Here's how to catch it without staring at a chart.
Which funding changes matter
- A flip in sign. Positive to negative means shorts now pay longs: the crowd has turned bearish on futures. Negative to positive is the reverse.
- An extreme reading. On most Binance contracts the neutral baseline is about 0.01% per 8 hours. Readings around 0.05% and above mean one side is paying heavily to stay in, which often comes before a sharp move against that side.
- The time to the next payment. Some traders adjust positions just before settlement to avoid paying funding.

Why it's easy to miss
Most charting tools show funding as a line in a separate pane, and exchanges show it deep in the contract details. Neither tells you when it changes. You find out after the fact.
Funding alerts in Traders Window
- Add the coins you trade. Funding appears for any coin with a Binance USDT perpetual.
- Under each coin, F shows the current rate and a countdown to the next payment. It turns amber when the rate is extreme.
- In Settings → Alerts, turn on Funding flips sign. When it flips, the widget pulses, plays its own sound and shows the new rate on the coin's row.
- Optional: send the same alert to your phone with ntfy.
Funding describes positioning, not timing. Treat a flip or an extreme as a reason to look closer, not as a trade signal on its own.
