Crypto market hours

Crypto never closes. But most of its volume comes when the big traditional markets are open. Here they are, live, in your time zone.

—

Is the crypto market open on weekends?

Yes. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies trade on exchanges like Binance every minute of every day, including weekends and holidays. There is no opening bell and no closing price. What changes during the day is who is trading: the sessions above are when the people and firms who also trade stocks and currencies are at their desks.

When is crypto busiest?

  • The London open often brings the first real move of the day after the quieter Asian hours.
  • The London–New York overlap, about two hours each weekday, is usually the most liquid part of the day.
  • 08:30 New York time is when most US economic data comes out, and 09:30 is the US stock open. Both can move crypto within minutes.
  • Weekends are thinner. With fewer traders, one large order can move the price further than it would on a weekday.

These are tendencies, not rules. News and liquidations can move the market at any hour.

These are the regular hours of the main stock exchanges in each city. The clock above converts them to your time zone and accounts for daylight saving time, which Europe and the US change on different weekends. Public holidays are not included.

What is the CME gap?

CME Bitcoin futures stop trading from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening (Chicago time), while Bitcoin itself keeps trading. If the price moves over the weekend, the CME chart opens on Sunday at a different level than it closed on Friday, leaving a "gap". Many traders watch these gaps as possible targets, though nothing guarantees they get filled.
