How to set crypto price alerts on a Mac that you won't miss

Most traders already have price alerts. The problem is noticing them: a silent phone, a banner that disappears, a tab in the background.

The usual options

  • Exchange apps send push notifications. They are easy to set up and easy to miss, especially on a muted phone.
  • Charting platforms such as TradingView have powerful alerts, but free plans limit how many you can keep, and they still arrive as a notification.
  • Menu bar tickers keep a price in view, but most refresh slowly from aggregators and can't alert you in a way you'll notice.

What makes an alert hard to miss

  • It appears where you're already looking, not in a notification center.
  • It keeps going until you acknowledge it.
  • It sounds different depending on what happened.
  • It adapts to the coin: 3% on Bitcoin is a big day, 3% on a small cap is noise.

Setting up alerts in Traders Window

  1. Hover the widget, click the gear and open Alerts.
  2. Next to a coin, enter a threshold and choose the unit: $, % or σ. σ is the coin's normal hourly move, so 2σ means “unusual for this coin”.
  3. Click the arrow to choose any direction, up only or down only.
  4. Turn on the signals you want: funding flips, liquidation waves, unusual volume and, with an account connected, positions near liquidation.
  5. Optionally, install the free ntfy app on your phone, generate a topic in the same tab and subscribe to it, so alerts follow you when you step away. The phone alerts guide walks through it.

The alert is measured from a reference price, the price when you set it. When it fires, the frame pulses and the row shows the move. Click the row, or press ⌃⌥A, to dismiss it; the current price becomes the new reference.

Every alert type has its own macOS system sound and repeats every 12 seconds until dismissed. You can turn off the repeat, or all sounds, in the same tab.
