How to keep a crypto price on top of full-screen apps on a Mac

You put your chart in full screen and the price widget vanishes. That's how macOS handles full-screen apps, and most widgets can't get around it.

Why widgets disappear in full screen

When an app goes full screen, macOS gives it its own Space. Regular windows, even ones set to stay on top, stay behind in the desktop Space. That's why most floating tickers, and the widgets in Notification Center, aren't visible while a full-screen chart is in front.

Menu bar tickers have a similar problem: in full screen the menu bar hides until you move the mouse to the top of the screen.

What it takes to stay visible

A window has to be a special kind of panel that macOS allows to join other apps' full-screen Spaces, the same mechanism Spotlight uses. It also shouldn't take focus when you click it, or it would pull you out of your trading app.

Traders Window does exactly this

  • It floats over every app, including full-screen TradingView, browsers and exchange apps.
  • Clicking it doesn't take focus from the app underneath.
  • It's half transparent when you're not using it, and ghost mode lets clicks pass straight through to the chart.
  • Prices stream from Binance about once a second, with funding, open interest and liquidations under each coin.

It's free, for macOS 13 or later. The install guide takes about a minute.
